About Anthony Beven

Having grown up in Cairns, I have seen first-hand the importance of culture, language, family and land to the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. I have worked closely with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, organisations and communities around Australia and have always been driven to make a positive contribution where I can. I am a legal practitioner with 20+ years’ experience as a senior statutory officeholder, including ten years as Registrar of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporations and eight years as an ASIC Regional Commissioner. I am admitted to the High Court of Australia, the Supreme Courts of the Australian Capital Territory, Northern Territory and Queensland and the National Court of Justice of Papua New Guinea. I am experienced in native title, having held statutory powers under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (CATSI Act) and the Native Title Act 1993 and assisted many native title bodies with governance, dispute resolution and financial management. I also have substantial experience in not-for-profit corporate registration, regulation, turnaround and reconstruction in Australia and also Papua New Guinea. Away from the office, I enjoy the sport of triathlon in both a voluntary role and participant, having held senior selection and board positions with Triathlon Australia in the past.
