About Anthony Birong

Growing up, I never thought I would attend law school. In high school, I didn't even apply to college. I enlisted in the United States Navy one month after graduating from high school. The military was an incredible experience that gave me everything I have today. Over the course of two deployments, I traveled to several countries across Europe, Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, and Southeast Asia. While on active duty, I completed my undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice. While completing my degree, I realized how fascinated I was with U.S. history, U.S. politics, and the U.S. legal system. Law school seemed like the next logical step after separating from the military. After separating from the military in 2021, I began law school at University of California, Irvine. In Summer 2022, I completed a judicial externship with a U.S. district judge in Los Angeles, CA. In Fall 2022, I completed an externship with the U.S. Attorney's Office in Santa Ana, CA. In Fall 2023, I returned to the U.S. Attorney’s Office as a certified law student. I appeared before U.S. magistrate judges in initial appearance hearings and responded to pre-trial and post-conviction motions. Now in my final semester of law school, I am a full-time extern with the Department of Justice, Criminal Division, Public Integrity Section (PIN). Each of these experiential learning opportunities has provided me the opportunity to observe attorneys in federal court, sharpen my legal research and writing skills, and build on my law school coursework.In Fall 2024, I will be joining the Orange County office of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius as an associate.
