I worked in the plumbing and heating wholesale for 20 years as a manager and salesman. During my wholesale career I sold Fujitsu heat pump/mini split units. Massachusetts is going green and pushing these types of high efficient units across the state. 12 years of selling Fujitsu I’ve learned how important it is to service the indoor and outdoor units. Indoor units circulate room air and will accumulate dust, animal dander, grease, mold spores in the A/C coil. Many units have stainless screen filters that need to be cleaned, ion deodorizing filters that need replacing. Most Importantly the coil fins will clog and collect all airborne particles. Coil fins need to be combed and washed for maximum efficiency. When the indoor coils and outdoor coils aren’t maintained this can bring down the total efficiency of the unit 25-40%. This will also cause unnecessary calls to your installer to check the line set pressures which can cost you hundreds! Most manufacturers suggest getting the outdoor condensers cleaned 2-3 times a year depending on where it’s installed. Indoor heads should be cleaned 2-4 times depending on your air quality and where it’s installed. Important to clean the condensation lines which is we’re mold builds the fastest if the lines aren’t pinched correctly. HRV units are also another whole house filter that is used in newer houses with spray foam insulation. Spray foam causes houses to be very tight and not breathe correctly causing mold build up, which will also cause issues for your heat pump units. HRV has filters that need to be cleaned or replaced 4-6 times a year. These units take outdoor air and help balance fresh air inside your home. I can also make sure your HRV is running at the correct temperature and air flow for maximum efficiency of the whole house. If the HRV isn’t set correctly it can run longer than it needs to causing longer electric cycles. Also causing your heat to run longer or your A/C to do that same making you lose efficiency. Dryer vent cleaning is something all homeowners tend to forget about as we clean the lint trap but never realize how much lint gets everywhere! I will clean the dryer lint trap throughout the dryer, take apart your dryer vent hose to make sure it’s all clean and not packed full. Dryer lint is highly flammable, it burns at a very slow rate which will burn longer inside the vent making it hard to detect. Once the burning lint has air hit, it will spread like wild fire.
