About Anthony Nguyen

I have old hands. Traced along my fingers and weaving throughout my palms are nicks, scrapes, and scars from finger carving, welding, rock climbing, and woodworking, as well as a host of others. Each wound tells a similar story, one of inexperience, growth, and learning. Since I was little, I have been pulling TV remotes apart and not quite putting them back together, building lean-to's out of rope and timber, and breaking and fixing all manners of things. While they aren't always the most appreciative of how I treat them, each day they teach me a new lesson, be it a different way to hold my ice tool, how to not crush a hand when dancing, or a different way to assemble an electronic system. Now working in mechanical and biomedical engineering, my hands have been as busy as ever being beat up and repaired. With each new experience, I learn and grow. There's just some feeling that comes with building something with your hands that is simply amazing. But, the best feeling I get from working with my hands is when I can share it with others. I love showing people how to make little cranes, and seeing the smile on their faces when they nail it for the first time. I love teaching people techniques for working with wood and metal, and seeing the idea really click. I love teaching people to cook, knowing that it’ll be something that they’ll carry for the rest of their life. It’s that feeling you get when you know you made a difference in someone’s life, even if it is ever so insignificant. That’s what I love, making a difference. Whether it be in someone’s life, or in making the world a little more beautiful.
