About Anthony Pyka

Sustainability has been the driving force behind my interest in researching renewable energy practices since a young age. I seek improvements in technologies that require changes for enhanced sustainability practices. As a graduate student, my specialization is in electrochemical systems and vacuum systems, particularly redox processes on nickel-based catalysts. While I have been involved in projects focused on remediating wastewater, the skills I developed are applicable to various electrochemical systems, including fuel cells, batteries, and electrolyzers. Outside the professional realm, I cultivate my soft skills through personal projects and community involvement. With a talent for machining and circuit building, I've designed and constructed Tesla coils and steam engines during my free time. Moreover, holding varsity positions during my graduate school career has led me to develop interpersonal skills by resolving conflicts on and off the field. I find joy in teaching and assisting others in their learning journey, as reflected in being awarded the 2022 McCarthy Award for Excellence in Graduate Student Teaching.
