Background

About Anthony Rushton

My journey into ITM research and development spans 20 years, beginning with a Physics degree and a postgraduate PhD in Radio Astronomy at the iconic Jodrell Bank Observatory. My early technical work with distributed radio antenna tracking systems provided the springboard for my involvement in addressing the complex challenges of safely integrating uncrewed aircraft into our shared airspace. Ranging from astrophysics to aerospace, my career has been dedicated to researching the intersection of new technology and operational safety. I am well experienced at managing and working with large teams that lead the development of new mission concepts and future operational technologies. I have worked for Universities, an ANSP, and an Inter-Government Organisations (IGO) all focused on the design, construction and operations of the world’s most powerful facilities. More recently, within the SESAR and Future Flight programmes, I have turned my scientific skills to designing the safe integration of autonomous systems and remote UTM operations.
