I boast a 100% fail rate for startups I've launched! Isn't that exciting? Although it may not seem so, I've learned so much from releasing great products that customers don't want. Chasing my dream of becoming a successful entrepreneur has led me to do many things: Education- After graduating high school with a 1.6 and attending seven different colleges, I somehow made it to one of the top business schools in the world (University of Michigan). Some people enroll here and experience imposter syndrome. I did the exact opposite. I was confident I would effortlessly ace each class but was quickly humbled after my first semester! College gave me a foundation to succeed as an entrepreneur by exposing me to constant time pressure, diverse environments, and projects designed to challenge founders. Mentorship- Serving the City of Detroit has changed my life. When your companies fail, you must have a job! I am fortunate to protect life and property as a firefighter. I am genuinely passionate about doing my part to protect our citizens. One bonus is my experience with the youth in our city. Not all children are troubled, but since I took the long route to make a positive difference in the world, I have a special connection with those who seem like they may not have a chance to do well in life. I use personal experience to relate my experiences to them so that they know they CAN succeed. Part of this is using my entrepreneurial experience to teach them perseverance. Data Geek- I needed to know why customers didn't want my products. What was I doing wrong? I wasted time and resources creating products without speaking to my customer first. I made assumptions. After learning about the business model canvas and how vital using data was in business, I became obsessed. Google Data Analytics Certification: Excel, Tableau, R, SQL Also, I'm self-studying SQL and Python. Family: Nothing I do is possible without my amazing wife and four kids. They are my motivation. They have also sacrificed so much to help me make it through two academic programs while caring for them, working full time, and operating startups.
