About Anton Westacott
I have recently graduated from the University of Bath with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences with Professional Placement. I have been fortunate to have several valuable research experiences. Most notably, my 12-month research placement at the University of Illinois Chicago, USA, in Dr. Maxim Frolov’s cancer research laboratory.I had the opportunity to collaborate on a CRISPR project in Dr. Frolov’s lab, researching which genes are regulated by the transcription factor E2F, in vivo. This was an invaluable experience. From my research, I was able to show the loss of E2F regulation on the Phosphoglycerate kinase gene leads to mitochondrial defects. As a result of my contribution, I was named as co-author on the paper ‘E2F regulation of the Phosphoglycerate kinase gene is functionally important in Drosophila development’ in the high-impact journal PNAS.
