About Antonio Capezza

Double PhD degree in 2020 from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) and the Swedish University of Agricultural Science (SLU). The topic of the thesis: Superabsorbents from Agricultural Co-Products. Previous I have developed an interest in polymeric materials when working with Conductive Natural Rubber Nanocomposites in KTH (2014-2015). The results in developing sustainable superabsorbents led to a patent in cooperation with Essity AB in 2020. Project Coordinator and main applicant in the Vinnova Challenge Driven Innovation program " Sustainable Superabsorbents "(2019-2020). This project aimed for pilot-scaling the results published in my PhD thesis and resulted in an established constellation of 12 industrial/academic partners interested in exploring the materials for future applications. Currently, I am conducting my postdoctoral studies in the topic "Extrusion of Porous Absorbents for Hygiene Applications" as a principal investigator in KTH Olsson's group ( BoRydins Stiftelsen for Independent Research). My current focus is to develop large-scale protocols for producing hygiene articles using industrial biomass/waste for raw material valorisation. I am directed towards producing a useful full prototype of a hygiene article made from industrial waste (Waste To Products W2P), taking into account circular bioeconomy and sustainability of the products (raw material, processing, end-of-life). My ultimate goal is to create a constellation of actors and collaborators united on a single interest: developing Sanitary Solutions for the current hygiene industry.
