I'm an Open Source IT specialist, based in Oxford (UK) and Cologne (Germany). I've been self-employed for 30 years, with customers ranging from local businesses to global multi-national companies. Note to recruiters: I am not interested in a permanent employment position, so please don't ask to connect with me so that you can send me job offers. For the time being I'm also not looking for additional contract work either. I do Linux, Asterisk, MySQL, High Availability and what I often term "Extreme Networking". I frequently program in Bash, Perl, PHP and C. I might even be able to remember some Fortran and Basic, but I try not to. I'm very experienced with Linux systems admin, networking, network security, IP telephony, proxying, load balancing, and high availability, on a variety of systems small, large, and unusual. People say I'm good at talking about technical topics too - either in training courses, conferences, workshops with customers, or delivering lectures at university. I have a good range of experience with, amongst other things- Debian / Devuan - Asterisk - MySQL - BIND - Apache - IPtables - IProute2 - OpenSwan / StrongSwan - OpenVPN - Linux-HA - Linux Virtual Server - Squid - MailScanner - SpamAssassin - Icinga / Nagios - KVM / QEMU In my spare time I ski, go for long walks, read both novels and non-fiction, and when I have time, I build unexpected things with Lego Mindstorms.
