About Anu Prasad

As the Founder and CEO of Karma Totes, a Hyderabad-based social enterprise launched in 2023, I am passionate about creating positive social and environmental change. We produce sustainable, biodegradable, eco-friendly tote bags to combat plastic waste while empowering women through opportunities and community support. My journey to founding Karma Totes has been one of resilience and purpose. At 40, I left Hyderabad, India, for the first time to pursue a master’s degree in the U.S, overcoming self-doubt, societal skepticism, and the challenges of balancing studies with raising young children. This experience taught me the power of resilience and self-belief. After a few rejections, I joined a Fortune 500 company in New Jersey as an e-learning Specialist/Learning Architect. A supportive workplace and mentorship helped me unlock my potential, acquire new skills, and lead impactful projects. Today, I channel my passion for climate action and social impact into Karma Totes. Our mission is to reduce plastic pollution, empower women, and prove that business can be a force for good. Every tote bag we create represents a step toward a sustainable future and brighter opportunities for the women who craft them. Inspired by the potential of sustainable practices to drive change, I am eager to collaborate with like-minded professionals in sustainability, events, marketing, and communications. Together, we can create a meaningful impact for the environment, communities, and future generations. My story is proof that it’s never too late to chase your dreams, learn, or make a difference.
