Background
About Anu Puri
A Humanitarian system strengthening, AAP and DRR Specialist with 18 years experience in Programme Management & Social Change during natural disasters, conflicts and disease epidemics. This includes 14 years with UNICEF offices (India, Bangladesh, South Sudan, HQ & Europe & Central Asia Regional office). Have led reformative initiatives in humanitarian & private sector programming. Also conceptualised, authored & coordinated formalisation of the Unicef Community Engagement in Humanitarian Action toolkit (CHAT 2.0), a first ever, Community Engagement, Social and Behavioural Change Actions (CESBC) approach to Humanitarian Programme Cycle. CHAT is supported by a course on Agora that allows the use of CHAT for effective CESBC in Humanitarian progs. I supported its development and roll out during the SBC global summit in Dec 2022. Also worked with IFRC and the Tata Institute of Social Sciences to review their global online Certificate Programme on Disaster Management. I presented a 5- year roadmap based on the review of 60 online courses in DRR, Emergency & Anticipatory programmes, & Climate resilience in 2020. A global innovation to mainstream & apply AAP through government mechanisms. The same was tested with Government of Kerala during & after the Kerala floods of 2018-2019. Another innovative project I was associated with was Mother@Work which reached over 4 million women working in garment factories. This was designed & established with the visionary Unicef Bangladesh nutrition team (Anuradha N, Mayang and Neha). My role entailed writing the 7 ISO standards on maternity protection. As an expert in systems building & strengthening, for AAP, I have created inclusive feedback mechanisms (Age, Gender & Disability). For PHE, I promoted Resilient Health Systems approach & supported development of all risk communication interventions at global, regional, national & state level for Zoonotic and Vector Borne Diseases. As part of the core team, I also led the development of a One Health Strategic Framework in Bangladesh. Before joining the development sector, I coordinated EU & USAID projects & worked on global brands(HBO, Nestle & Revised National TB Programme) with leading advertising agencies of India such as TBWA-Anthem, McCANN Erickson and BBDO. I hold a masters degree in Psychotherapy & Counselling; & am currently pursuing an online Masters in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and Systems thinking in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University.
