Background
About April Ledger
I am a seasoned educator. Having worked in primary schools, high schools, special needs schools, music schools, universities and even home schooling - I believe everyone can learn. As a music specialist I lectured at ECU, been Principal of a music school and class music teacher in K-12 schools. I have trained, and taught Reading Recovery and Extending Mathematical Understanding (EMU) as a specialist teacher for years. Graduating with a masters degree in Gifted Education has increased my ability to provide specialist support for teachers, parents and students in meeting learning needs across all levels of ability. In my leadership role I work closely with all those invested in helping individual students with learning needs. This includes, the executive committee, the college counsellor, external professionals, classroom teachers and parents. Other roles and responsibilities include coordinating the Academic Support Department in meeting individual student learning needs, monitor and track whole school literacy and numeracy and oversee teaching practice that focuses on providing differentiation to ensure each and every student learns. Data analysis identifies areas of weakness, and is used to inform whole school planning, which focuses on improving learning outcomes. Having extensive knowledge and expertise of monitoring and tracking whole school learning data has placed me at the forefront of leading professional learning. Currently, I am implementing a concept based mathematic curriculum using baseline data from whole school assessments to inform teaching, and provide a differentiated concept based curriculum. This has instigated teachers to participate in Observations and Feedback (using the AITSL guidelines) where the emphasis is learning form each other. Future professional learning is planned for differentiating the IB curriculum to support gifted and talented students.
