About Apurva Bora

After studying and working in Sydney for 4yrs, I moved to Tasmania for a change of scenery and to gain statutory experience. I have come to LOVE Hobart city since my first day here (no intention of moving back to the mainland anytime soon) and I am super excited to be a part of the City shaping team at the Hobart City Council. I am a strategic thinker and an experienced urban planner passionate about the development of sustainable transport systems. I continuously strive to further my career in the transport and strategic planning field where my skills and knowledge can be used to the fullest. I am a Master of City planning graduate from UNSW Sydney and have a special interest in transport planning, urban renewal, housing, sustainability, and development. I have developed a strong planning background with experience in the public and private sectors in Australia as well as India. I - Strong communication and customer service skills- A deep understanding of NSW and TAS planning systems - Statutory planning experience in local government- Spatial and data analysis skills in the public sector transport department - Critical analysis and feasibility studies in the private sector - Working experience in GIS for spatial analysis in the public sector. I also possess a strong passion for urban renewal and development and have exceptional skills in feasibility studies developed while working in the private sector. I have worked as a student project officer at a developer's firm in Pune (India), where I assisted mainly in the feasibility studies of redevelopment projects of residential sites in the older areas of Pune. My bachelor's thesis focused on urban renewal opportunities in an inner city area (Shivajinagar) in Pune City in India. I continued to pursue my interest by taking electives during my master's coursework at UNSW like 'Housing markets and management','Housing policy and finance', and 'Property development and feasibility' which helped achieve a deeper understanding of the Australian housing system. I completed my master's thesis in the field of Public-private partnerships in the redevelopment of public housing estates, where I particularly studied the governance structure of the NSW Government's Communities Plus projects and the Bonnyrigg Living Communities Project.
