About Arben Dedja

Arben Dedja has graduated from the Medical School of the University of Tirana, Albania in 1988. After having practiced for a number of years as a General Practitioner he completed the residency program in General Surgery. On 2012 he got a PhD degree with an experimental model of BPD at the Medical School of the University of Padova, Department of Paediatrics (title of the thesis: “Administration of L-citrulline in an animal model of perinatal lung damage”). He actually works at the Department of Cardiac Thoracic and Vascular Sciences and Public Health of the University of Padova. Since he decided to shift from the clinical career track to research work and joined the various biomedical departments of the University of Padova, where he still works. He has been continuously working in the area of organ transplantation, experimental and microsurgery, stem cell therapy etc. He has a consolidated experience and skills in applying different microsurgical techniques in small laboratory animals and non-human primates. More specifically, such techniques mainly include: cardiac and kidney (xeno)transplantation (rat, mouse, hamster), lung transplantation, pulmonary artery banding, pulmonary artery implantation in an aortic position (rat), liver resection (mouse and rat), oesophageal and diaphragmatic microsurgery in rodents, as well as stem cell administration (into the trachea, under the renal capsule etc). He is fluent in English, Italian, Albanian.
