About Archie Murfitt

I have gained many skills throughout my studies; one of those is decision making. This has been developed within economics. I thoroughly enjoyed the macro aspect of this subject in particular choosing the best strategies the government could use and the effect it would have in different situations. For example understanding as to why the Bank of England lowered the interest rates to attempt to incentivise spending rather than saving to try and decrease the impact of the recession. I have been able to develop my problem solving by studying maths; this has given me the ability to analyse data and use the quickest method possible to find the solution which is essential when studying accounting and finance. I have been involved in many challenges; one of those was when I went to China on a leadership exchange. During this trip we had the opportunity to go into the poorer parts of Shanghai and visit a state school to teach the young students English. These students had never spoken English nor had they probably ever seen an English person. I managed to teach a class of twenty five students the song ‘head shoulders knees and toes’ without any mistakes. I gained many skills from this including leadership and resilience. Resilience was acquired by the fact that I was able to communicate with the students successfully even thought there was a communication barrier.
