About Areli Sanchez

When I was 9 my uncle was diagnosed with cancer. When I first started visiting him, the hospital scared me. I never thought I'd want to spend most of my time there. But, every day I was there, my interest grew bigger and bigger. I was fascinated by all the doctors, the equipment, and even the patients. Although seeing the sick patients made me sad, it made me realize that I could do something to help people like them in the future. Being a surgeon means more to me than just having a job. It means being able to combine two things that I love, helping people and science. I am currently a fourth-year student at the University of North Texas graduating in December. I am pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. I aspire to one day be able to become a Pediatric Neurosurgeon and join the Peace Corps to help those in greater need. Currently, I am seeking to expand my knowledge in the medical field by pursuing a job that allows me to interact with patients or shadowing opportunities.
