Background
About Arhum Ahmed
I am a MASc student in Electrical & Computer Engineering at Ontario Tech University, Canada, driven by a passion for designing and optimizing embedded systems, SoC architectures, and AI-powered autonomous technologies. My journey bridges cutting-edge hardware design with intelligent software systems, positioning me at the intersection of next-generation computing and real-world innovation. My academic background reflects both excellence and consistency — graduating with a CGPA of 3.75/4.0, ranked 2nd in my class of 112, and awarded 2 Gold Medals along with the Dean’s Honor Award for outstanding performance. Professionally, I have worked on complex SoC and RTL design challenges: • At Xcelerium, I contributed to multi-core RISC-V SoC development, vector extensions, AXI peripheral integration, and performance optimization with custom hardware. I developed automated testbenches, verification environments, and FPGA-based prototypes — gaining strong experience across the design–verification cycle. • At Pak Elektron Limited and the Digital Systems Lab (UET), I worked on embedded hardware, MCUs, and RISC-V cores, including debugging privileged architecture and booting Linux on CVA-6 processors. On the research side, my Mitacs Globalink internship in Canada focused on building machine learning systems for energy optimization in smart homes, combining advanced algorithms with practical IoT applications. In my MASc, I am extending this work to embedded intelligence for autonomous vehicles, leveraging mobility-aware architectures, hardware–software co-design, and AI-driven control. Alongside this, I have completed multiple academic and independent projects, including: • Fault-tolerant cache memory using ECC • 3-stage RISC-V processor with LSU, FSU, CSRs on FPGA • IoT smart switch (ESP32 + XAMPP) • Image caption generation using CNN–RNN • Deep Q-learning for autonomous agents Core Skills & Tools: Verilog, SystemVerilog, RTL/SoC Design, FPGA Prototyping, RISC-V, Embedded C, Python, PyTorch, TensorFlow, AXI, UART, SPI, I²C, FreeRTOS, Linux, Git. What I bring: A strong foundation in computer architecture, RTL/SoC design, and embedded systems, complemented by applied research in AI and autonomous systems. I aim to contribute to teams and projects building efficient, reliable, and intelligent hardware–software solutions for the future of embedded and autonomous platforms. I am open to collaborations, internships, and industry roles in: SoC & RTL Design · Embedded Systems · AI/ML for Edge Devices · Autonomous Vehicles · Computer Architecture & Verification
