About Ari Asmi

My career goals are to improve our ability as researchers to answer key societal challenges. A lot of these challenges are related to disciplinary differences, lack of transparency and research cultural misunderstandings. Research processes and results should be as open as possible, and a lot of work is needed in the practical and policy development to make this possible. Originally a climate scientist, I was frustrated on the difficulty on using results, codes and data from other scientists to better understand our planet. Since early 2010s, I have concentrated my career on developing the Open Science and Open Data landscape, particularly in the context of environmental research infrastructures, in Europe and globally, as well as in more general sense in Research Data Alliance and European Open Science Cloud. I have strong experience on leadership of distributed communities, research infrastructures, open data related development, academic data science and using global atmospheric models.
