About Ari Karhu

My master's thesis was on the optimizing the manufacturing process parameters of the certain halogen-free flame retardants for production of cable insulation materials. The first job as a development engineer was in an MBO company, where specialty polymers were developed, produced (with the help of contract manufacturers) and marketed for the European markets. The second job as a development engineer was in a pipe manufacturing company, where the role was to further develop a new process for PEXa pipe manufacturing using IR technology and to support technical sales activities related to the Central European market. The role of the Production Manager was to lead 18 professionals operating 3 production lines. The role was also to develop the processes of 4 production lines during this 6 year period after which I continued as an development engineer, before joining to the PP DBN project as a production representative, and commissioning and start-up team leader of down-stream systems. The Project Manager role has consisted of various projects all the way from hydrocarbon unloading systems (ship pier & rail cars) to olefin and polyolefin production equipment and polyolefin loading systems for bulk and packaged materials. It has also consisted of some location level improvement projects relating to access control, working time control and infrastructure. In addition, I have - managed the execution of the subsidy (provided by the relevant ministry, TEM) in an energy efficiency project - led various types of procurement-related processes- worked as a responsible construction manager- acted as a reviewer for study / project maturity review sessions related to cross-location projects- been a member of PMI Finland Chapter for several years.
