About Arie Soeteman

As a researcher and developer at Fermioniq, I am exploring quantum algorithms for quantum chemistry. My main interest is currently in improving the capacities of classical quantum circuit emulators using tensor network techniques. I am a CL MSc graduate of Logic and Computation at the University of Amsterdam, where I focussed on combining Machine Learning and Logic to create noise-resistant and explainable AI systems. In this program I have explored topics such as Automata Theory, Quantum Computing, Computational Social Choice, Cognitive Modelling, Logical Programming, Philosophy of AI and Proof Theory. Before enrolling in this program, I studied Artificial Intelligence within the Beta-Gamma framework, which provides the opportunity to participate in interdisciplinary projects. I finished the program with a cum laude distinction and published my thesis on form-meaning systematicity at 2020. I have complemented this with studies in Theoretical Philosophy, with an emphasis on the works of Wittgenstein and Kant. I have worked as a teacher at BSc and MSc level for the University of Amsterdam, as well as Stichting Studiebegeleiding Leiden, which I am very grateful for the extensive training in feedback and presentation.
