About Arif Mazumder

I teach both undergraduate and post-graduate accounting and finance subjects at Brac Business School in Bangladesh, and very much enjoying my role as an assistant professor. Beside my teaching, I have a keen interest to apply my knowledge of accounting and finance in financial wellbeing research. Particularly I am interested to research contextual factors, that are related to personal financial planning decisions, with a view to contribute towards achieving a better financial future for the masses. Variables that I am interested to study include both personal and environmental factors- policies, regulations, professions, industry specially products, both subjective and objective confidence, socio-cultural factors, personal, psychological, education and advocacy and alike. I have presented my research at an international seminar, along with regular presentations at the annual colloquium of School of Business at Western Sydney University. Currently I am embarked on writing papers from my thesis findings, along with a number of new topics in a developing economy context. Also, I am in the process of talk with the school to form a dedicated research cluster in financial wellbeing. Prior to joining the academia, I have been a practicing public accountant with MIPA credential from the Institute of Public Accountants, Australia. Working in the public accounting arena (where my clients were mainly small businesses and individuals from diverse backgrounds and with personal circumstances), was pivotal in developing an interest in the personal financial planning area. Along with my current MIPA credential (with PPC), over the years, I have also achieved a Bachelor of Business Administration degree and a number of post-graduate degrees in accounting and applied finance (financial planning) from Australia and abroad. I am open to research collaboration, to work in both scholarly research and projects, with both local and international scholars, advocacy groups, educators, government agencies, and policy makers, and professional bodies. Especially, interested to study areas related to the personal finance and financial planning decision making process, alongside the dynamic role of socio-economic, cultural and environmental factors.
