Background

About Arjak Bhattacharjee

Currently, I'm working on the 3D printing of biomaterials and naturally derived biomolecules (Ayurvedic molecules) for tissue engineering applications. I have a total of 16 peer-reviewed publications and more than 15 national/international awards in my credit for academic & extracurricular activities * I did my M. Tech (2018) in MSE, IIT Kanpur, India, and won a presidential gold medal for best overall performance among all graduate students from the president of India, Mr. Ram Nath Kovind.* I use one in-house extrusion-based 3D printer, a binder jet machine, and 3D bioprinters to construct different additively manufactured structures with interconnected porosity.* I use calcium phosphate-based ceramics, starch, polydopamine polymers, and other edible polymers as raw materials. Our major objective is to understand the effects of naturally derived biomolecules such as curcumin from turmeric, gingerol from ginger, etc. on the antibacterial, osteogenic, and chemo-preventive potential of these 3D printed scaffolds. To enhance the bioavailability of curcumin, we utilize metal complexation and polymeric coatings such as polydopamine.* We use rat models to assess the in vivo properties of our drug delivery system. I do have experience performing in vivo surgeries, post-op animal care, and histological assessment by myself.* Another aspect of my research is the evaluation of the mechanical and biological properties of ceramic-coated metallic implants (using RF induction plasma spraying) for load-bearing applications.
