Background
About Arka Ray
Dr. Arka Ray is an Electrical Engineer and a recent Ph.D. graduate from the Centre for Research in Nanotechnology and Science (CRNTS), Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, India. His interdisciplinary doctoral research focused on the development of computational and instrumentation platforms for protein and peptide microarray-based diagnostics, integrating expertise in electrical engineering, and bioinformatics. As part of his interdisciplinary work, Dr. Ray developed high-throughput data analysis pipelines in R language for high-throughput microarray datasets, aimed at identifying disease-specific autoantibody signatures and humoral immunity in cancer and viral infections, including COVID-19. His analytical framework supported the processing and normalization of high-dimensional data, statistical modeling, and visualization of antibody-antigen interactions across thousands of probes and clinical samples. In parallel, leveraging his electrical engineering background, he designed and built a custom, laboratory-scale fluorescence microarray scanner. This in-house system enables cost-effective, low-throughput detection suitable for research labs lacking access to commercial scanners, with precise control over optical and mechanical subsystems. Dr Ray's Ph.D. work has resulted in five peer-reviewed publications, including presentations at leading international forums such as HUPO and along with three patent filings. He is currently working as a Project Research Scientist at IIT Bombay, where he continues to collaborate with global research groups on microarray technologies and data-driven diagnostic platforms.
