About Arlean Dawes

As a Community School Director at Center for Supportive Schools (CSS) for over 3.5 years, I am committed to creating a positive and inclusive learning environment for students and families from diverse backgrounds and needs. I lead and facilitate the communication, engagement, and support of the school community, and manage and implement programs, events, and activities that promote academic and social-emotional development. I also oversee a portfolio of partnerships that provide essential services and resources to the school, and supervise and coordinate an in-house mental health clinic, ensuring the well-being and success of all students. In addition to my role at CSS, I am a freelance translator and interpreter with 10 years of experience in various fields and settings. I have worked as a full-time court interpreter for the New York State Unified Court System, and as a contract translator for non-profit and grassroots organizations. I offer pro-bono medical interpretation services as needed, and I am fluent in English, Spanish, with limited proficiency in Portuguese and Italian. I am passionate about using my language skills and cultural knowledge to bridge gaps and foster understanding among diverse groups and individuals. I hold a Master of Arts degree in Latin American and Caribbean Studies, with a focus on Museum Studies, from New York University.
