About Armin Stocker

Armin Stocker (*1972 in Austria) has been Assistant Professor since 2018 and Deputy Head of the Institute for Construction and Design Prinicples at TU Graz (KOEN Institute). Armin Stocker studied architecture and he holds a PhD from TU Graz. He completed his habilitation ‘Constructive Fundamentals of Design’ in 2025 and has since held a venia docendi for ‘Building Construction and Architectural Design’. He was co-founder of the architectural firm S.DREI Architektur. Until 2012 Armin was primarily responsible for international projects in Paris, Madrid, Rome, Milan, Warsaw and Shanghai. He has been running his own studio, Armin Stocker, since 2012. Armin has been teaching at TU Graz since 2001, has international teaching and research experience, e.g. at TU Berlin, UdK Berlin, BTU Cottbus etc. and supervises Master theses. Armin Stocker is the editor of scientific publications on design-based research approaches, such as ‘Learning from Berlin’ and he is the author of numerous scientific publications on spatial theory and spatial perception strategies. About his project YOSTAR. Young Styrian Architecture, the accompanying exhibition was shown in Graz, Maribor and Berlin as well as in Brussels. Armin was Vice-President of ZV-Styria until 2017 and was appointed to the Graz Old Town Expert Commission by the Styrian Provincial Government( 2020). He has been a registered townscape expert of the Province of Styria since 2023. Armin Stocker ist seit 2018 Assistenz Professor und Stellvertretender Leiter am Institut für Grundlagen der Konstruktion und des Entwerfens (KOEN Institut) an der TU Graz (Austria). Er hat Architektur an der TU Graz studiert und 2018 mit der Dissertation "Die Dimension des Städtischen in der Literatur" promoviert. 2025 hat er seine Habilitation mit dem Titel "Konstruktive Grundlagen des Entwerfens" 2025 abgeschlossen und ist Privatdozent für „Baukonstruktion und Entwerfen“. Zu seiner Publikation "YOSTAR" wurde die begleitende Ausstellung in Graz, Maribor, Brüssel und Berlin gezeigt. Er ist Mitbegründer des Architekturbüros S.DREI Architektur und seit 2012 betreibt er das Atelier Armin Stocker. 2010 wurde er mit dem International Architecture Award des Chicago Athenaeum und dem best architects award ausgezeichnet, 2025 mit dem BIG SEE AWARD. Armin war bis 2017 Vize-Präsident der ZV-Steiermark und wurde 2020 von der Steiermärkischen Landesregierung in die Grazer-Altstadtsachverständigenkommission berufen. Er ist seit 2023 eingetragener Ortsbildsachverständiger des Landes Steiermark.
