Background

About Arnab Poddar

My academic journey culminated in an MS and Ph.D. both from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, where I specialized in Computer Vision, Image Processing, Data Science, and Deep Learning and Generative AI. IIT Kharagpur is globally recognized, ranked overall and 65 in engineering and technology according to the QS Rankings 2024. During my doctoral research, I was associated with the Computer Vision Lab under the guidance of Prof. Prabir Kumar Biswas and Prof. Jayanta Mukhopadhyay. One of my significant experience includes receiving the Microsoft Academic Partnership Grant 2022-23 for my work on the Generative Augmentation of Document Image Applications. This project involved collaboration with esteemed scientists from Microsoft and resulted in publications at top-tier conferences such as 2023 in Washington DC, USA, and ICDAR 2023 in San Jose, California, USA. I have directly utilized Generative Models like GANs, Hugging Face, and Diffusion Models, LLMs along with Deep Learning techniques. I have extensive experience working with a variety of datasets, including medical data, house price data, and classical machine learning frameworks such as SVM, Logistic Regression, XGBoost, AdaBoost, Decision Tree, PCA, and LDA. My research includes notable publications in OCR and information extraction from both printed and handwritten documents. In addition to my research experience, I have been involved in externally funded projects, including "Information Extraction from Document Images in Indian Languages" funded by MEITY, Govt. of India. The outcomes of these projects were presented at various international conferences, showcasing my ability to contribute to impactful research.
