About Arnav Goel

At this moment in time, I am a doctoral student under Dr. Jinha Jung at Purdue University. Since 2022, I’ve been a graduate research assistant at Dr. Jung's Geospatial Data Science Lab, where I’ve had the joy of delving into the fascinating world of remote sensing and Earth observation. For my Master’s thesis, I worked on estimating canopy height using multi-modal time series data from multispectral (Landsat and Sentinel-2), radar (Sentinel-1), and LiDAR (GEDI) satellites. During this time, I was introduced to the transformative world of AI and deep learning, which has been revolutionizing research and tech communities, including remote sensing. Starting with a basic affinity for linear algebra, I’ve spent the past few years building a solid theoretical foundation in machine learning and data science along with practical experience of successfully applying them for my research. While the technological landscape continues to evolve, my initial motivation to contribute to humanity's efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change and monitor our planet remains unchanged. I’m always eager to discuss anything related to remote sensing, satellite sensors, and the latest foundation models that seem to drop every other week. I look forward to forging new connections and building a community in this ever-evolving space.
