About Arnav Mittal

I’m a PhD candidate in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Delaware, specializing in computational fluid dynamics (CFD), transport phenomena, and electrified process design. My work integrates high-fidelity modeling (COMSOL), physics-based simulations, and machine learning to develop next-generation reactor technologies for decarbonized chemical manufacturing.My research focuses on Joule-heated reactors and high-temperature, short-residence time systems for intensified processes like ethane cracking and propane dehydrogenation. I’ve modeled multiphase flow, heat and mass transport, and porosity-induced heterogeneity in resistive heating elements. I’ve also developed symbolic regression and random forest models for rapid prediction of mass transfer and flow patterns in liquid–liquid systems, enabling reliable scale-up from micro- to milli-scale reactors. Currently working on design of impellers, fluidized bed, and slurry reactors for polymer processing.Beyond CFD, I actively apply AI/ML tools and TEA/LCA, to extract design principles and optimize energy efficiency, startup dynamics, and material selection. I’m passionate about leveraging simulation-driven innovation to accelerate sustainable process development at scale.
