About Arno Willems

During his Applied Mathematics study at TU Delft Arno Willems has specialized himselve in modeling complex decision problems under risk and uncertainty. After graduation, he focused on the many applications of Risk & Reliability Engineering in the infrastructure, process industry and energy sector. Since 1998 he has gained a lot of experience in the areas of risk-based decision making, project risk management of large, complex civil engineering projects, probabilistic cost & schedule engineering, reliability analysis, LCC management and performance-driven & risk-based asset management. He has made important contributions to the book “RISMAN - Project Risk Management, an essential tool for managing and controlling projects”, Rijkswaterstaat’s Reliability Engineering (RAMS) guideline and the Risk-based O&M (ProBO) guideline, the manual "Risk-informed maintenance plans" and the CROW publication “Availability”. Some leading projects of Arno are reliability and asset management for the PALLAS nuclear reactor, design study of the Texas storm surge barrier “Ike Dike”, reliability & availability analysis and RCM of the new Panama Locks, asset management at the Water Board Hollandse Delta, LS-Ned and North Sea Port, RAMS analyses for Schiphol-Amsterdam-Almere (SAA), Sluiskil tunnel, A4 Delft-Schiedam, RAMS analyses and probabilistic O&M plans for the Dutch movable storm surge barriers, the RWS RINK & VONK projects, scenario analysis for RWS maintenance strategy and (co-)writing the RWS RAMS Guideline and the management advice for the organization-wide implementation of risk-based operation and maintenance within Rijkswaterstaat. As a teacher Arno is involved in various courses and training programs in the field of risk analysis and risk-informed asset management. In addition to his role as senior consultant RAMS & Asset Management, he has led the Department of Risk Analysis and Contract Management at Iv-Infra between 2008 and 2022. In 2013 he joined the Management Team of the infra division of Iv. As of 1 July 2022, Arno is head of the Asset Management division at the infra division and Asset Management director at Iv.
