About Arpan Das
I am working as an Assistant Professor at Department of Physics, Noida Institute of Engineering and Technology (NIET), Greater Noida where I have been engaged in teaching Physics, research on computational materials science, mentoring students, curriculum development and examinership. I am deeply passionate about teaching Physics at the bachelors and masters level. I worked as a Research Associate at Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), Bangalore. I specialize in Computational Materials Science and Solid State Physics. Prior to this position, I completed a Ph.D. degree from JNCASR, Bangalore in April, 2024. In my research career, I have developed a deep understanding of materials modelling, did extensive computer simulations of materials on diverse projects to make insights into structure-property relationships, provided physical insights into experimental observations, presented my works in national and international conferences and published several papers in internationally reputed journals. Some of my notable achievements are (i) identifying the mechanism behind surface alloy formation from two immiscible elements – a finding that bridges computational predictions with experimental observations,(ii) uncovering the origins and extent of photoluminescence quenching in doped halide demonstrating electronic reconstruction as the key mechanism behind the formation of 2DEG at oxide perovskite interfaces, and (iv) calculating the imaginary part of the dielectric function (ε₂), matching the peaks of the ε₂ spectra with experimental Ellipsometry data, and identifying that each peak corresponds to a specific transition in the band structure. Before my Ph.D. I completed my M.Sc. and B.Sc.(Hons.) in Physics from University of Calcutta. I have qualified all India level examinations such as CSIR-NET JRF 2018, UGC-NET 2017, GATE 2018, JEST 2018 in Physics. I have been expanding my skill set by learning Data Science and Machine Learning to accelerate the rational design of nanomaterials and to integrate data-driven approaches with my materials science expertise. I am excited about opportunities where I can apply my combined expertise in computational materials science and emerging data-driven techniques to drive innovation and solve complex scientific challenges.
