About Arran Ridley

I am an experienced researcher skilled in qualitative and quantitative methodological approaches. I have over 10 years of experience as an interdisciplinary researcher, mainly focused on data visualisation and digital methods. Before this, I accumulated 7 years of experience working in education, specifically in special education, working with vulnerable young adults. My practice sits at the intersection of data visualisation, digital methods, design studies, and digital culture, with a particular focus on how data shapes everyday life in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. My work examines the social, cultural, and material dimensions of digital technologies, drawing on interdisciplinary approaches that combine critical data studies, urban studies, and creative practice. My research is driven by the need to develop contextually grounded understandings of digital transformation in the region. This includes addressing major societal challenges such as digital inequalities, uneven digital infrastructure, climate and environmental change, and the ways in which these issues are experienced through everyday interactions with data and technology.
