I employ computational and statistical approaches to analyze large genomic and other biological datasets to answer relevant and specific biological questions. Through my research, I'm trying to better understand how predisposition to complex metabolic diseases such as type 2 diabetes (T2D) is encoded in our DNA. Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have indicated that most T2D-related genetic variation regulates gene expression, rather than directly altering protein function. I study the genetic basis of gene regulatory mechanisms in relevant human tissues by leading and collaborating on integrative analyses of large-scale genomic, epigenomic and transcriptomic datasets (including RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, CAGE).
