I enjoy problem solving and I’m a very keen learner. That’s why I chose to pursue a career in network engineering. After leaving school I decided to do a level 3 course in IT. That’s where I learnt about networking at a basic level. I wanted to learn more so I enrolled in a level 4 apprenticeship with college where I was working 4 days a week at NCI Technologies. What I did at work and what I learnt at college weren’t directly relevant but all good knowledge. Whilst at college I learnt a lot about Cisco and Azure with a bit of windows server. I completed CCNA ITN and SRWE which included a lot of packet tracer and so did my final Level 4 city guilds qualification at the end of the apprenticeship. I’m also looking to complete CCNA ENSA. However at work my job is widely varied. Some days I’d be out at a customer site that has no internet and I’d be troubleshooting the issue. Or I’d be installing and configuring new Ubiquiti, UniFi, Aruba, ruckus, draytek kit and more. Then the next day I’d be running copper or fibre cable and terminating it. I’ve also got plenty of experience with hand tools after having mounted many screens and Starlink dishes to buildings. I still have the exact same role at Croft as they acquired NCI Technologies. Although more benefits as they’re a larger company I have now had training and access to new technologies such as Ekahau for carrying out wireless surveys. Going forward I’d like to build on what I’ve learnt at college and work so far.
