Background
About Asad Prodhan
I am a molecular biologist and bioinformatician working at the intersection of genomics, diagnostic bioinformatics, microbiome science, and data-driven biological decision-making.My work focuses on the development of diagnostic bioinformatics tools and reproducible analysis platforms that translate high-throughput sequencing into actionable biological and diagnostic insight across agricultural, veterinary, and biomedical domains. A core theme of my work is bridging biologists to bioinformatics by making advanced genomic analysis more accessible, interpretable, and deployable in real research and diagnostic settings.I currently lead and contribute to multiple applied research programs spanning molecular diagnostics, pathogen genomics, microbiome ecology, and applied genomics, with particular emphasis on:• precision diagnostics using high-throughput sequencing (HTS) data• microbiome-driven functional and ecological interpretation, and• development of scalable, containerised bioinformatics tools and workflowsAlongside my research, I am deeply engaged in bioinformatics education, training innovation, and capacity building. I have actively been developing bioinformatics micro-credentials designed to bridge wet-lab scientists into modern genomics and data analysis, and the founder of Murdoch Vet Bioinformatics, an initiative focused on making genomics and bioinformatics accessible to life-science Higher Degree Research (HDR) students through applied workshops, practical workflows, and community-driven learning.I hold adjunct academic appointments supporting student supervision, skills-based training, and curriculum development, and I am particularly interested in co-supervising HDR students and developing industry-aligned academic units that integrate real-world datasets, HPC computing, and modern analytical workflows.I have established a virtual bioinformatics core model that supports structured training, reproducible analysis, and long-term genomics capability building. This has been enabled through the development and curation of 100+ hands-on bioinformatics manuals, compiled into an openly available bioinformatics book.I am actively growing a research and teaching portfolio, and I welcome conversations around collaboration, co-supervision, micro-credential development, grant design, and new applied genomics initiatives.
