About Asha Balakrishnan

Dr. Asha Balakrishnan (Bala) is a fellowship-trained cataract, cornea, and refractive surgery specialist and board-certified ophthalmologist at DLV Vision. Prior to this, she served as the Director of the Cornea & Refractive Surgery Service and Assistant Professor at the University of Louisville, where she built the cornea service, introduced laser-assisted cataract surgery to the institution, and performed the first implantation of the newest Tecnis multifocal lenses in the region in Spring 2015. Dr. Bala graduated from Norfolk Academy as valedictorian with numerous honors, including being a National Merit Scholarship winner and Presidential Scholar finalist. She attended Harvard University, where she graduated with honors in Chemistry. She attended medical school at the Washington University in St. Louis and did Ophthalmology residency at the University of Michigan Kellogg Eye Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She then completed a highly-selective fellowship in Cornea, Anterior Segment, and Refractive Surgery at the Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Bala has publications in the American Journal of Ophthalmology, International Ophthalmology Clinics, and the American Heart Journal. She has presented at national meetings, including the Association for Research in Vision & Ophthlamology, the American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Bala is certified in a range of femtosecond laser platforms for cataract surgery. She has extensive experience with premium intraocular lenses, complex cataract surgery, intraocular lens exchanges, and the placement of secondary intraocular lenses. She is trained in the diagnosis & management of corneal & ocular surface disease and trauma and corneal transplantation. Dr. Bala is certified in LASIK, PRK, & other refractive surgery techniques. She is one of a select group of surgeons who will be introducing the Kamra inlay to her practice for reading vision.
