About Asher Vollmer

Hello and thanks for visiting! I am a 2015 graduate of Saginaw Valley State University in the Great Lakes Bay Region of Michigan where I studied chemistry while minoring in alternative energies/green chemistry and criminal justice. I currently work as a Medicolegal Death Investigator with the St. Croix County Medical Examiner Office in Wisconsin. I am also the Program Coordinator at our office, providing much of the background and day-to-day operation work that helps our morgue function and thrive. I am also certified to run all of our office's toxicology tests on our Randox Multistat instrument. I consider myself a jack-of-all-trades when it comes to science. I have held positions dealing with environmental quality, data analytics, crime scene investigation, new product research (anything from beauty products to adhesives - be sure not to combine the two), analytical research, LIMS management, complex machine operation/troubleshooting/repair/calibration, report writing (including crime scene documentation and user manuals for analytical machinery), death investigation, and more. I am no stranger to outdoor work in all types of weather. I have climbed 500 ft tall smokestacks with analytical machinery strapped to my back to see the sun rise along the St. Clair River, photographed footprints in a blizzard after a Christmas Day gang shooting in downtown Flint, and ridden ATVs and boats to death scenes in rural Wisconsin. I have the aptitude to run a range of analytical testing techniques including FT-IR, UV-VIS, GC-MS, NMR, LC-MS, DSC, DMA, HPLC, TGA, tensile strength, contact angle, pH, titrimetry, rheometry, chemiluminescence, microcompounding, extrusion, and biomarker assays. Pertaining to forensics, I was deemed proficient at all testing periods in the following crime scene investigation techniques: on-scene biology testing, tire track and footwear casting, metal detection use and search, rendering loaded firearms safe, evidence collection and packaging, documentation, photography, report writing, and courtroom testimony. I am also quite familiar with accreditation processes as it pertains to ANSI/ANAB. I'm a human, just like you. My hobbies include anything true crime related, watching MLB games (whether on TV or in person), collecting baseball cards and MLB memorabilia, outdoor activities such as biking, kayaking, camping, Geocaching, metal detecting, and regular/magnet fishing, and playing console-based video games like Elder Scrolls Online and Pokémon. I love to explore the outdoors with my beautiful wife and our furry critters by my side!
