About Ashish Dhaka

Motivation for my creative exploration originates from the traditional art and craft of my country. I belong to a country which has rich textile heritage that has gone through countless changes for the past decades. The only thing which has remained constant in this evolution is the need to ‘dress’. This very need becomes the cornerstone of my existence as a fashion designer. My great interest in traditional and rural aesthetics led me to develop my first collection as a graduating student of Pearl Academy (New Delhi) which won me the accolade of ‘Best use of traditional skills.’ Exploring different avenues to display my skills have always thrilled me which has motivated me to take part in several competitions. Winning the ‘Debutante designer of the year 2012’ at Wills India Fashion Week was a defining moment in my career. I take forward this competitive streak in my career. Developing course curriculum at Pearl Academy and taking up academic research has led me to think and evolve as a designer. The academic research papers compiled by me on subjects close to my mind have provided me with a fresh perspective on design. I personally believe in taking forward my research and knowledge to create a unique creative self - expression. This in my opinion me is the first step in understanding ‘dress.’
