Growing up, my parents were intentional with the lessons they taught me and my sisters. Mom made sure we paid our tithes, knew how to count and never relied on a calculator. Dad was dedicated to being a protector and provider; this was never more important than when he unexpectedly passed away at the age of 61. In an instant, our lives were immediately shattered and would never be the same that day forward. Despite the financial security my dad left behind, concerns and questions continued to haunt my mother. Does she have enough? Will she run out of money? Will she be a burden to her children and grandchildren? She could no longer look to dad to help take care of certain bills, manage their credit scores or any other important financial decisions. My mom, as she jokingly said, was now being forced to be an adult. As a financial advisor, I quickly realized how many women were just like my mother.
