Background

About Ashley Booth Gingras

I have been teaching English Language Arts since 2007. I have taught the following courses: ENG 10F, ENG 20F, ENC 30S, ETR 30S, ENL 30S, and ENC 40S. Currently, I am teaching Grade 9 ELA (ENG 10F), Grade 12 ELA (ENC 40S), and Grade 11 ELA (ENC 30S). I am a Lead Teacher at the SRSS. I am passionate about improving students' literacy skills. In the past, I have been on leadership teams to revise and create assessments for Grade 10 ELA. As well, every year I help mark Grade 12 Provincial Exams. In the future, I aim to bring a new elective history course to my high school: The History of Rock 'n' Roll. I am pleased to have two mentors in Winnipeg, a teacher who has been teaching the course for years, and a rock historian, author, and educator. I am also passionate about social responsibility. In the past, I have managed the Philanthropy 101 program that was sponsored by Loewen Windows, which created a branch-off student-led group called CUchange. I continue to focus my extra-curricular activities within the community. For many years, I organized the Farm Credit Canada Drive Away Hunger Food Drive at my school. As well, I am the liaison between three nursing homes in Steinbach to provide worthwhile volunteer experiences for teenagers. This includes orientation, training sessions, and assisting the social worker with student volunteer placements. As well, I am the coordinator for "Cinderella's Wardrobe", which is a grassroots program that allows community members to donate gently used formal wear, which is then used to set up a "pop up shop" for grads to find a gently used grad dress. for free! I am very grateful to live in such a generous community. In 2023, I took 38 teenagers and five adult chaperones to Japan over Spring Break with EF Tours. I helped lead two other international trips in 2009 and 2007. Now, I am planning a trip to South Korea for 2025.
