Background
About Ashley Boyer
During my time in college, 2018-2022, I completed the teaching program during the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to this, I am experienced with online applications such as flip grid and zoom. While only the first semester of the program was 100% online due to pandemic, the rest of the program was in person but heavily online due to safety measures put in place during that time. During this time, I am familiar with having the recording device in the classroom for students to zoom into class as it was present during the first half of the teaching program. I am experienced using infinite campus and canvas. During the program, all of the lessons I created were put on canvas, as well as all the submissions, allowing students to access the material anywhere as well as allowing for everything to be in one place. During student teaching at South Elgin High School, I taught civics and intro to law. I taught five classes, 3 civics and 2 law. During this time, I was challenged with into to law as I had never taken a class for law and yet was placed into this class as it fell under the humanities. Due to this, I was challenged to create lesson plans and had to actively work with my cooperating teacher as the lessons were created to make sure the content was correct and that everything I would be explaining or the activities the students would be doing would end up building upon each other. From this experience, I became very organized with my paperwork and google drive as to make sure none of my lesson plans became lost. The experiences with intro to law then helped me with my civics classes as well. The organization, the creation of activities, the different ways students would learn the material, all of this transferred to the civics classes as well; allowing me to better create lessons, grade, and interact with my students.
