About Ashley Harris

As a firmly progressive social studies teacher, one of my primary goals is to teach my students how to think like historians—to view history not just as a series of dates and events, but of people and choices—that while the “whos,” “whats,” and “whens” of the past may be interesting, the “whys,” “hows,” and “now whats” are important. I believe that molding students into historical thinkers can be achieved by encouraging students to inquire, discuss, think critically, make connections and consider the future. I also recognize students as unique individuals who bring their own perspectives, personalities, strengths and insights into the classroom. I believe that these experiences and qualities only serve to enrich our collective learning experience. No two learners are alike, and I consistently strive to meet each student where he/she/they are at, and support or challenge them when needed.
