About Ashley Martens

I am currently a Para Educator 1 teacher at Sunnybrae Elementary school. I work the before school and after school care in the Annex program. Working at Sunnybrae has taught me a lot about different cultures and their traditions. Our after school program is an ASES program meaning that 75% of our students are government funded. It has provided challenges and valuable learning opportunities for me. I deal with phone calls on a day to day basis with parents, teachers and other interested parties. I also make spreadsheets for our activities we do monthly. I file all emergency paper work and have to carefully look at every piece of paper for allergies or other important information. I graduated from Notre Dame de Namur with a Bachelors of Art degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus in Cultural Studies. I spent time in Florence, Italy for six months studying abroad and had the opportunity to travel through Europe. I am comfortable around people and can answer any question thrown at me or at least be able to direct them to someone who would know the answer. Working with children over the past eight years has taught me patience as well as the ability to think on my feet. It has offered me the chance to meet new people and form trusting relationships with families.
