About Ashley McCormick

I have extensive experience in urban placemaking and co-producing innovative resources, interventions, events, activities and spaces which nurture the skills and imaginations of diverse communities. I have a particular expertise in creative learning and public engagement, and have led multi-disciplinary teams navigating complexity, uncertainty and change. I worked as Associate Partner at muf architecture/art for 10 years, and am a long-term collaborator with erect architecture and East architecture/ landscape/urban design. I have developed creative participation strategies and opportunities with a range of organisations, including English Heritage, The Building Exploratory, Open City, Tate Britain, Camden Art Centre and the London Legacy Development Corporation. As Head of Learning & Participation at the De La Warr Pavilion I steered the organisation towards becoming a "learning commons” - an inclusive, sustainable model of knowledge exchange and skills development. As Senior Curator Learning at The Design Museum I lead on public practice engaging emerging and established designers, architects, makers, curators, researchers, commentators and activists to shape and share their insights, reflections, wisdom and calls to action. In this role I also advocate for anti-ableist best practice and have overseen the introduction of new resources and programming to improve physical and sensory access to the building, exhibitions and events. I am a visiting tutor at the Architecture Association and on Kingston University Curating Contemporary Design MA course.
