About Ashley Prato

I am moving to New York City this summer and am looking for a position in the area. I am currently looking for positions in the education sector as I am still very much interested in working in education. Over the last five years I have been working as a High School Math teacher. I started my teaching career at Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools after being accepted to Teach for America. I fulfilled my two year commitment and decided to stay a third year to receive my teaching licence. I then decided to move to Durham Public Schools and teach at Jordan High School as I was drawn to Jordan’s very diverse population and proud history in Durham County. As a teacher I have been very successful at building relationships with the students at Jordan as well as other adults I interact with daily. I actively support my students in afterschool activities and academically. I offer tutoring before and after school and started a Saturday School Program to provide students with more opportunities to receive help. Being the Math I lead teacher, it is important that the teachers on the team respect and trust me. Without that trust it is difficult to collaborate which, in turn, only prevents the students from receiving the best education opportunities. I was also able to help support beginning teachers in their classrooms with lesson planning and building strong relationships with their students. Teaching has given me the opportunity to build and strengthen skills that are very easily transferable to any position in the workforce. I have been able to learn how to communicate with many different types of people and also successfully work on a team to create successful and differentiated lesson plans. I have also acquired a strong ability to pivot when necessary and make swift and well informed decision for the greater good. I have also been able to strengthen my ability to shift focus on different things happening at the same time and staying organized while doing it.
