About Ashley Proffitt

I am currently the Program Manager of Resettlement Services in Roanoke. I have worked my entire adult life toward the goal of helping others. I pride myself on my education and my in-depth knowledge of the complexities of the geo-political atmosphere around the world. Most of my recent work has been done with the population of Afghanistan following the Taliban takeover in August of 2021, I have worked closely with Islamic cultures and have a growing understanding of customs and ethical systems. Arabic and Hebrew are second languages to me. Prior to the fall of Kabul I was working closely with the population of The Democratic Republic of Congo. In addition, my International Relations Studies have been focused on the history and policies in the Middles East/ Near East, including sections of Africa. My current position allows me the opportunity to work with People Seeking Asylum, Refugees, Special Immigrants, and Human trafficking victims. I have conducted research in multiple fields both for academic and employment purposes, giving me an understanding on specifics of conducting analysis on my own accord. I also frequently travel to the middle east to work with human rights organizations. Before my work with refugees, for seven years I worked to provide communication and Liaison services for Criminal Justice purposes while working as a law Enforcement Officer. Tasked to evaluate, train, and provide guidance to new officers, while maintain open lines of communication with Administrative Security Officer (Captain, Major, and Colonel). It was the provided information that directed the creation of new policies and procedures for security personal within local correctional institutions. I spent my time designing programs and courses for the academy that met DCJS Standards. I have superb interpersonal skills with a history of working with people with different cultural and linguistic background. I am determined, articulate, and compassionate. In all previous position I have worked with large quantities of reports and deadlines. I work well under due stress. I possess the ability to focus on a subject, isolate and formulate a viable solution, and do so in a timely manner. I would be an asset to any team.
