Background
About Ashley Wendt
Ashley M. Wendt, LMSW, is a Green Chimney’s Residential Social Worker. She serves adolescents with co-occurring disorders through individual, group, and family psychotherapy while also leading an interdisciplinary team and supporting parents through parent trainings. Ashley has served on the Dialectical Behavior Therapy Planning Committee, Animal Interaction Team, and co-edited the "Animal Assisted Therapy Manual for Clinicians." While at Green Chimneys, she hopes to strengthen its collaborative culture, sharing from her Hawaiian culture and embodying the ʻŌlelo Noʻeau:'A'ohe hana nui ke alu 'ia (no task is too big when done together; Mary Kawena Pukui). Ashley is a co-author of "Molecular Biomarkers of Adult Human and Dog Stress during Canine-Assisted Interventions: A Systematic Scoping Review." She aspires to continue writing and presenting about her personal and professional experiences with human-animal-environmental interactions (HAEIs) to connect others with the mutually beneficial and healing partnerships of humans, animals, and nature. Ashley received her Bachelor of Science in Animal Science and Psychology minor from Oregon State University. She continued her studies by completing her Masters degree in Social Work with a certificate in Human-Animal-Environmental Interactions in Social Work. She is actively working towards acquiring her Licensed Clinical Social Worker credential to achieve her goal of creating a non-profit organization in Hawaiʻi that serves families in a nature and animal-based setting. On her free time, Ashley can be found exploring the mountains with her dog, Hoaka, dancing, reading, or traveling.
