About Ashlin Harris
I work in biomedical informatics as a research software engineer at Brown University. I graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a Ph.D. in Computational Science in 2021. For my dissertation,"Fractional Calculus in Population Dynamics," I adapted mathematical methods for biological diffusion within fractal spaces. I earned my Master’s degree in Mathematics in 2019, taking mostly biostatistics courses. Previously, I completed a Bachelor’s degree in Biology (Genetics and Biotechnology concentration) with a minor in Computer Science. I was awarded the Buchanan Fellowship, the highest honor for entering freshmen at Middle Tennessee State University. For my honors thesis, I researched single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) using high-throughput RNA-seq data. My specialty is collaborative research computing in the biological context. I develop tools primarily in Julia, though I also use Python, R, and other programming languages in my research. Ultimately, I hope to apply my interdisciplinary experience at the intersection of computational biology, data science, and software engineering.
