Background

About Ashton Robertson

I am a media and communications professional driven by the core values of community and deep truth-seeking. I focus on aligning messaging and mission to help organizations connect meaningfully with the communities, donors, and employees who need them.My perspective has been shaped by my journey. I was born in Memphis, raised in Jones County, Mississippi (of Free State of Jones fame), I earned a master’s degree in strategic communication in Stirling, Scotland. Along the way I joined and abandoned a Christian cult, worked in translational science at Duke University, and built a communications consultancy that served startups, scientists, and initiatives across three continents. These experiences inform my approach to communications through story-making and narrative strategy.I thrive on tackling big, complex messaging and positioning challenges, and I enjoy digging in when ther are discrepancies between what scientists want people to know and what well-meaning publics tell one another. Currently, I’m expanding my expertise by pursuing a graduate certificate at Oregon State in Public Policy Analysis, with the goal of further supporting public benefit organizations with impactful communication.
