When you think of an actuary, the words creativity and empathy don’t instantly come to mind. However, these are the qualities that truly guide me in my day-to-day work. I am an innovator who has had the pleasure of working on many novel and exciting opportunities at SLC Management (SLC) since joining the organization in 2017. As Managing Director of Client Solutions, I lead a team focused on developing innovative customized investment portfolios, for current and prospective clients. I also contribute to the development of market insights that can help institutional investors stay ahead of market trends and understand how different investment solutions can help them achieve their objectives. I’ve always been intrigued by opportunities on the asset side of the balance sheet. I start with an understanding of a client’s objectives, which can range from helping them meet their pension benefit obligations to helping them target sufficient returns to cover services operated by their charitable foundation. When I’m designing and integrating custom solutions for those needs, I’m guided by a mathematical approach and a deep understanding of their regulatory and accounting requirements. As an empathic leader, I am focused on the happiness of my team. I believe that a happy and motivated team, with a laser focus on our clients’ success, drives us to be our best. This shared goal inspires us to collaborate, hold each other accountable and celebrate diverse perspectives. I pride myself on being a manager who my employees can count on for fairness and understanding. My track record highlights my commitment to teamwork. Key accomplishments include: • Helped SLC Canada win its first core fixed income insurance client and first major multi-asset solution client. • Recruit and manage a team with a reputation for being talented, high performing and goal oriented. • Thought leader who elevates the work of my team and the SLC brand in Canada Prior to joining SLC, I spent a decade honing my skills in consulting to institutional investors on asset liability risk, as well as performing asset liability studies and plan design studies for a variety of institutional investors. These investors included pension plans, insurance companies, endowments and foundations. I also performed actuarial valuations for pension plans. After graduating from the University of Waterloo with a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, I became a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA), Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (FCIA) and a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Charterholder.
